What’s even wilder than San Diego’s famous zoo? The new club and eatery Stingaree! Rap superstar Kanye West and other celebs are answering nature’s call—to party!
Celebrity Living Weekly, January 23, 2006 – Sometimes things never change! In the late 1800s, San Diego’s red-light district, known as the Stingaree, was the place to have naughty fun for such famous figures as gunslinger Wyatt Earp. Now another Stingaree, a month-old restaurant and dance club housed in a former warehouse in the same area, has become the epicenter of the city’s wild nightlifc. And it’s already drawn multiplatinurn rapper Kanye West and sports greats like Reggie Jackson and David Justice, club reps say! The focus of the 22,000-square-foot, three-level space is a 35-foot floor-to-ceiling waterfall. Both the posh eatery (dishes include porcini-dusted sea bass, $24) and the banquette-ringed dance area (for grooving to deejayed hip-hop and pop tunes) are on the main floor. You can also take the spiral staircase to the 7,500-square-foot Oasis Rooftop Lounge, perfect for sampling the signature Get Wet martini (Grey Goose Le Citron, Hypnotiq and white cranberry juice, $l0-$l2) while snuggling in one of six cabanas or enjoying the sexy scene. Or stop on the mezzanine for yet another cozy lounge area and the private Penthouse suite—where, say club reps, Late Registration rapper Kanye sipped Hennessey and scoped out the spirited crowds below until the wee hours. At Stingaree, the legend continues!
